From Tree to Sea X YFE Bird Lovers Mug
Meet Lauren Strybos - the most talented ceramicist and artist! I have admired her work for so long and when I found out we share the same love of birds, this collaboration felt meant to be. Together we chose our six favorite birds, and Lauren captured each one so beautifully - its habitat, its food source, and the very essence of its colors and spirit! We hope one of these beauties is yours to keep forever. SOME FUN BIRD FACTS SWAN • Swans mate for life and can live up to 20–30 years • A group of swans is called a bevy, or a wedge when flying • They can fly up to 60 mph and migrate hundreds of miles • Cygnets (baby swans) sometimes hitch rides on their parents' backs HUMMINGBIRD • Their hearts beat up to 1,200 times per minute during flight • They're the only birds that can fly backwards • A hummingbird visits 1,000–2,000 flowers per day to fuel up • They weigh less than a nickel but have extraordinary memories for flower locations PIGEON • Pigeons were awarded military medals in both World Wars for delivering messages under fire • They can recognize their own reflection; a rare sign of self-awareness in animals • Pigeons navigate using the Earth's magnetic field, the sun, and even infrasound • They're one of the few birds that drink by sucking water up rather than tilting their head back PLOVER • Some plovers perform a "broken wing" act to lure predators away from their nests • They nest directly on the ground, relying on camouflage as their superpower • The Killdeer plover has a loud, piercing cry that sounds exactly like its name • Chicks are born ready to run; up and moving within hours of hatching PUFFIN • Puffins can carry up to 60 small fish in their beak at once thanks to specially adapted serrated jaws • They spend most of their life at sea, only coming to land to breed • Puffins are excellent divers and can go 200 feet deep underwater • Their colorful beak fades in winter - it's brightest during mating season! SNOWY OWL • Unlike most owls, Snowy Owls are diurnal - they hunt during the day • They have up to 2-3 inches of feathers covering even their feet for Arctic insulation • A single Snowy Owl can eat over 1,600 lemmings in a year • They're one of the largest and heaviest owls in North America Lauren is a Chinese-Jamaican ceramicist and former wildlife biologist. With a passion for the outdoors & environmental conservation, along with a love of playing with clay since childhood, Lauren creates one of a kind ceramics that have a playful vibe to them. Her travels have inspired much of her work, with an emphasis on tones, textures and shapes found in native flora + fauna, as well as the little joys of everyday life."and" From Tree To Sea ceramics are made in small batches using primarily stoneware & porcelain. Pieces often feature happy designs & coloured glazes plus a mix of smooth, wheel thrown silhouettes and organically hand-built vessels. I believe that the more we integrate nature in our everyday lives, the more we will want to connect with our world. Hence these amazing mugs by Lauren!
