Ruach Sculptural Earrings
Ruach (חוּר) is the Hebrew word for breath, wind, and spirit. In Hebrew thought, wind is not an endlessly diffusing force, but a breath that moves within space and animates life. Breath operates within the boundary of the body, and spirit is not directionless energy but a force that forms order within being. Ruach is therefore not an unrestricted wind, but a breath that animates the interior of existence. Ruach Line explores lines shaped not by rigid structure but by invisible movement and flow. Using a burning technique developed by Sarah J. Park, the metal form emerges in a state of tension. Rather than standing through mass or solidity, it is held in balance by subtle movement passing through its interior. The hollow interior is not simply emptiness but a chamber where breath resides. Elastic metal wires unfold across the surface, tracing the path of ruach and revealing delicate forces that sustain the form without filling it. This work investigates a sculptural condition sustained not by density or weight, but by breath and movement passing through the body of the form — a state of becoming. The reverse side is engraved with the artist’s name, Sarah J. Park.
