Zuccardi Un Lugar de los Andes Malbec 2022
96 Points - Patricio Tapia - Descorchados. Malbec is often associated with rich, powerful reds, but this high-altitude example shows a very different side of Argentina’s flagship grape. Grown at around 1,700 metres in the foothills of the Andes, it offers remarkable freshness, fragrance and finesse. The combination of cool mountain temperatures, unusually low alcohol and soils rich in organic matter creates a distinctive expression that’s more about purity and subtlety than weight and concentration. Taste Ripe blackberry, black cherry and plum lead the way, backed by notes of violet, wild herbs and a touch of spice. The palate is smooth and supple, with fine tannins, fresh acidity and a long finish carrying hints of dark chocolate and cracked black pepper. Rich enough for grilled meats yet fresh enough to keep you reaching for another glass. Wine Press Ratings 96 Points - Patricio Tapia - Descorchados (2022 Vintage) "At about 1,700 meters above sea level, in the San Pablo area and well within the foothills of the Andes Mountains, this malbec stands out from its neighbors further down in the Uco Valley. Everything here seems to be delicate and herbal, with touches of spices and red fruits, also some flowers, but above all that herbal side that is repeated in the mouth. With a smooth texture, it has fine, round tannins. This malbec grows on soils rich in organic matter, a very different situation from other great malbecs from Uco. In addition, the altitude and climate of this extreme area mean that its alcohol is unusually low, around 11º, not at all usual in Mendoza. Go for this rare specimen, a mountain malbec from any angle." About the Producer Few producers have done more to redefine Argentine wine than Zuccardi. Led by Sebastián Zuccardi, the family winery has spent decades exploring the diverse terroirs of the Uco Valley, focusing on high-altitude vineyards and the unique character of each site. From mountain Malbecs to finely etched Chardonnay, these are wines that capture the remarkable landscapes of Mendoza with clarity and precision.
