Shahnameh Playing Cards

The Shahnameh Playing Cards are inspired by the Book of Kings written over a thousand years in ancient Persia. The Shahnameh is set in the Persian kingdom around 500 BC and comprises of stories of ancient heroes, mythical beasts, epic battles and timeless stories of love, loss, destiny. Depicting the eternal struggle between good and evil the Shahnameh is often considered the Eastern counterpart to Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey. Shabnam Adiban was inspired to create a card deck of cards based on characters from Shahnameh and based her illustrations following the descriptions of each character’s appearance and personality in the novel. The result ? A beautiful deck of cards that won 6 DOTY awards!
