July Beginning Handbuilding -Sliding Scale

Get creative with this relaxing, fun, beginner-friendly class. Classes meet weekly for two hours for a total of four sessions, with open studio time every day for you to practice on your own. Please select the scale option that feels right for you and your current finances. Tier 1 ($220) is a pay-it-forward rate that helps subsidize lower-cost spots for those who need them and supports our ability to continue offering and expanding these programs. Tier 2 ($195) reflects the true cost of the class. If you’re able, we encourage choosing a higher tier—your support directly helps us expand affordable class opportunities for others. Location Still Life Ceramics 1600 Altamont Avenue Richmond, VA 23230 Class Outline During this four week course, you will learn the basics of hand building through techniques like pinching, coiling, and slab construction. We will also go over surface decoration and get creative with glazing. Handbuilding is a freeform, meditative process and you'll be able to use your skills to create a variety of objects like teacups, vases, bowls, planters, and small sculptures. This class is perfect for those who have no prior experience with clay, as well as wheel throwers who would like to try something different. The fee for this course includes covers instruction, clay, tools, glazes, and firing, plus open studio hours outside of class for more exploration in clay. Policies By enrolling in a class or workshop, you are acknowledging that you have read and understand the safety instructions and liability waiver. Cancellations made 4 or more days before the start of the class will be refunded. For cancellations made fewer than 4 full days, but more than 24 hours before the start time, a 50% refund or 50% credit toward another class or workshop will be issued. We cannot provide refunds or credits for cancellations or rescheduling requests made fewer than 24 hours before class starts, if you miss class, or arrive too late to participate.
