Fresco dining chair by Victor Wilkins for Gplan (1960s) UK The Fresco dining chair, designed by Victor Wilkins for G Plan, is one of the most recognisable British responses to Scandinavian modernism. Introduced in the late 1960s, the design reflects a shift towards lighter, more informal living, furniture that was both practical and carefully considered in proportion and detail. The chair is defined by its softly curved backrest, circular upholstered seat, and well-balanced teak frame. The construction is simple but precise, with stretcher supports adding strength while maintaining a light visual footprint. It is a design that sits comfortably in both period interiors and more contemporary spaces. We currently hold a large number of original Fresco chairs in storage and can offer up to 12 chairs upholstered to order. This allows us to create a consistent set tailored to your space, rather than assembling mismatched originals. Each chair will be fully restored in our St Albans studio Completely stripped back to frame Frames cleaned, revived, and oiled New webbing and fire-retardant foam (Crib 5 compliant) Upholstered in a carefully selected mid-price point fabric (with options to upgrade) This approach retains the integrity of the original design while ensuring comfort, durability, and compliance for modern use. His work for the Fresco range drew heavily on Scandinavian and Italian influences, translating these ideas into accessible, well-made furniture for British homes. The Fresco collection became one of G Plan’s most popular ranges, reflecting a move away from heavy traditional furniture towards lighter forms, modularity, and a more relaxed approach to living. About the Manufacturer G Plan, founded by E. Gomme in High Wycombe, was one of the most influential British furniture manufacturers of the post-war period. Known for its coordinated ranges and high production standards, the company helped bring modern design into everyday homes across the UK. Condition & Upholstery Made to order.
