Rolex Datejust 1601 Silver Singer Block Markers Dial
At the end of the 1960s, the renowned dial maker Singer was commissioned by several Swiss watch brands to develop new design proposals for their model lines. In their well-known 1967/1968 catalogue, they presented a range of experimental design studies—exploring printing techniques, markers, and dial finishes for different manufacturers. Within this catalogue, some of the most iconic Rolex designs began to take shape, including early concepts linked to the Daytona “exotic” dials. Another particularly interesting section was dedicated to the legendary Rolex Datejust. While many of these designs never made it into production and were archived as studies, a few did evolve into actual watches. One such example is this striking and rather playful “Singer Block Markers” dial, which closely reflects one of the design variations shown in the Datejust section of the Singer catalogue. We believe this example originates from that experimental design phase and was produced in very limited numbers. The bold marker design adds a distinctive and slightly unconventional dynamic to the sunburst silver dial. It carries a clear prototype-like character, echoing the experimental spirit seen in Singer’s original design studies. The mirrored filling within the markers adds depth and texture, shifting tones from light to dark depending on the angle—giving the dial a very engaging, almost playful visual effect. The result is a Datejust that stands out immediately—unexpected, expressive, and full of character. The watch itself is in outstanding sharp condition, featuring a strong case, crisp fluted bezel, and a solid reference 62510H Jubilee bracelet. The watch and its slow set movement has been fully checked and regulated by our watch maker .
