Harley-Davidson Sportster

This Harley-Davidson Sportster was built using a 997cc Ironhead V-twin from a 1978 Sportster installed in a 1970 XL/XLH frame with a bolt-on hardtail. It is finished in orange with black accents and decorative pinstriping and is equipped with Brembo disc brakes, 19″ alloy rims, and a Dell’Orto PHM carburetor as well as a peanut-style fuel tank, a tractor-style solo seat, a chopped rear fender, a flat track handlebar, and staggered drag-style exhaust pipes. This Sportster is now offered at no reserve on dealer consignment with a clean California title. The peanut-style fuel tank and chopped rear fender are finished in racing orange with checkerboard graphics and decorative pinstriping and mounted over a black-finished 1978 XLH-1000 frame to which a bolt-on hardtail has been fitted. Additional features include a front-hinged, double-sprung tractor-style solo seat, a raw aluminum oil tank, a chrome rear-fender stay, a side-mounted taillight/license plate bracket, and a side stand. Wire-spoke wheels with 19″ alloy rims are mounted with 3.5″ front and 4″ rear Carlisle dirt track tires that show sidewall cracks. The bike’s only suspension is provided by a polished telescopic fork, and braking comes from Brembo calipers with drilled discs at both ends. A chrome flat-track-style handlebar equipped with a left-side bar-end mirror, Magura dog leg hand levers, and Oury grips is secured by a ribbed dog bone riser clamp. There is no instrumentation, therefore mileage is unknown. The 997cc Ironhead V-twin comes from an XLH Sportster of 1978 vintage, and it breathes through a 40mm Dell’Orto PHM carburetor with a chrome pancake-style air cleaner as well as a set of staggered slash-cut drag pipes. Power is transferred to the rear wheel through a four-speed gearbox and a drive chain.
