What if a photograph didn’t end at the print, but continued to evolve through touch, pressure, and material resistance? Participants are introduced to Gumoil printing, an alternative photographic process developed by Karl Koenig in 1990 that transforms images into high-contrast, textured works through oil pigment and light-sensitive chemistry. Unlike conventional printing, Gumoil embraces unpredictability. Each image reacts differently to timing, abrasion, and application, making the process a dialogue between control and chance. Selection becomes crucial images with strong contrast and texture respond best to this method, while others may dissolve or resist entirely. Over a 2–3 hour workshop, participants will be guided through the fundamentals of the process, including digital negative preparation, chemical handling and safety, and step-by-step printing. The session also covers troubleshooting techniques and how material behaviour influences the final image. By the end of the workshop, each participant will bring home: • 2 A4 Gumoil prints • 1 digital negative prepared for future printing • 1 informational pamphlet on Gumoil printing This workshop is designed for intermediate to advanced photographers interested in experimental print practices, where the photograph is not just reproduced, but physically transformed. About the Instructor Christopher Gio Sarsono (b. 2000, Bandung, Indonesia) is a photographer, printmaker, and founder of Dog Days Photo Lab. He began his photographic practice in 2016 and further developed his approach through Kelas Pagi Yogyakarta in 2019, alongside programs such as RAWS Attack Class, Panna Future Talents, Photobook as Object by RPS Tokyo, and Yogurt Lab 2025. Working primarily with analog photography and alternative printing processes, Gio’s practice explores personal memory, family relationships, and the cultural landscapes that shape everyday experience. Date: 7th June 2026 (Sunday) Time: 10AM-1PM Venue: Zontiga Taman Paramount Fee: RM229 per pax Preparation: 1 high-contrast / textured image file
