Uganda - Muki Fruity

Uganda Muki Fruity Grown on the fertile slopes of Mount Elgon in eastern Uganda, this vibrant coffee comes from farms perched high between 1,800 and 2,000 meters above sea level. The region’s rich volcanic soils, abundant rainfall, and cool mountain climate create ideal conditions for slow cherry development, allowing complex tropical flavours to form. Muki Fruity is the result of a collaborative effort led by Norman Mukuru and his team at The Coffee Yard, a central hub that receives and carefully dries coffee from surrounding districts including Sironko, Mbale, Bulambuli, and Kapchorwa. With nearly two decades of experience in coffee, Norman has focused on refining natural processing techniques since 2018, developing careful fermentation and drying practices that highlight the fruit-forward character of the region’s coffees. For this micro-lot, ripe cherries undergo an anaerobic natural process, where the fruit ferments in a controlled low-oxygen environment before drying slowly. This method intensifies sweetness and enhances the coffee’s expressive tropical profile. Quality control is led by Maria Kirya, whose expertise in blind cupping helps ensure clarity, balance, and consistency in every lot. The name Muki Fruity reflects the partnership behind the coffee—combining the names of Norman Mukuru and Maria Kirya, whose collaboration brings this distinctive cup to life. In the cup, expect a lively and layered profile with bright pineapple and juicy plum, balanced by cocoa richness and gentle tamarind acidity. Sweet almond and nougat notes round out the finish, creating a coffee that is both vibrant and comforting.
