Sugi (cedar) or in western Japan chestnut is also used for knife and tool handles. It is an environmentally sustainable method with low maintenance. Charred surfaces charm with a uniquely textured aesthetic with the natural wood color peeking through the black surface in subtle patterns. PETTY KNIFE Larger than a paring knife yet smaller most other knives, the NATUR Petty is ideal for small to medium-sized cutting tasks. The NATUR Petty knife blade is ultra-thin which allows it to excel at jobs that require agility and precision such as stemming and seeding peppers, thinly slicing garlic, or cutting shallots into tiny dice. 焼栗 YAKI KURI CHESTNUT Charred chestnut wood achieves a unique look and texture through carbonization. This technique protects the wood against both water and fire. The art of shou sugi ban was widely used in the 18th century on rural homes and rice storehouses to prevent fires. Utilizing traditional methods gives the chestnut wood handle an improved durability that extends the life of the knife.
