BASIL 'African Tree' --Ocimum suave--

AKA "Mtule". Bushy annual tea basil, deliciously aromatic. East African origin, most frost-hardy cultivar, and may self-seed! Traditional Ayurvedic usage for stress, anxiety, heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, and dementia. Drinking tulsi tea in the morning is a fantastic way to get started. Can overwinter in milder climates, making a woody central stem or trunk, and growing up to 12' tall! Very high Ugeniol (what is often called clove oil) content, and interestingly the local use of tree basil follows the same use that is commonly employed for oil of clove–as an antiseptic and pain reliever for dental woes. Among other uses, local people give the fresh leaves to children to allay pain of teething. Plant prefers full sun and is not picky about soil. Preferred host of Tanzanian Cryptaspasma phycitinana moths.
