VINTAGE 1959 OMEGA PRECISION STAINLESS-STEEL CALIBRE 268 100% ORIGINAL. This superb gentlemen’s Omega is in truly wonderful condition and completely original. The model 2903-16 precision was introduced in 1952 so this one is well into it’s production run, having a serial number dating it to 1959. The all stainless-steel case is very substantial, measuring 34.5mm across the bezel, not including the crown and 42mm tip-to-tip. The case is beautiful, with long down-turned lugs and free from any dings or serious scratches of any kind. These cases were particularly well made and virtually water-resistant. The case back fits very snugly, snaps back closed very firmly and is in excellent original condition with just a little very light scratching from gentle use over the years. Housing the calibre 268 manual winding movement with subsidiary seconds. The example that we have here is in ‘as-new’ condition. I have rarely seen a movement as clean as this one, which is testament to the wonderful case design which has protected it perfectly over the years. I would say that the movement is in the same condition as when it left the factory in 1954. The original silvered dial is pristine in every respect. The desirable explorer type, with 12-3-9 Arabic figures and dagger divisions. The polished silver dauphine hands are similarly in perfect order. The dial is signed simply ‘Omega’ with ‘Swiss made’ below six. The watch retains the original Omega signed winding crown which is also in perfect condition with no noticeable wear. The watch works faultlessly, winding and setting as it should. The glass is also the original, though there are two hairline cracks to the surface which are very hard to detect. We feel it better to leave the glass as it is, considering the originality of the watch, but it can easily be changed for a new one before shipping at the buyers request. The watch is complete with it’s original 1950’s strap buckle, though we have fitted a new, quality alligator-grain leather strap. Omega watches as well preserved as this example do not come up for sale regularly and this particular one in our opinion would be a very sound investment.
