An incredibly versatile and easy-to-use smart telescope for the Sun, night sky and daytime viewing, all in one compact unit. Description The DWARF mini works differently from a conventional telescope. Instead of looking directly through an eyepiece, the telescope collects light from the object you are viewing and displays the resulting image on your smartphone or tablet. That opens up a remarkably wide range of things to explore. At night, choose an object and the DWARF mini can automatically locate and track it for you. For faint targets such as nebulae and galaxies, the telescope takes a series of short exposures and combines them, gradually building a clearer and more detailed image on your screen. You can watch the view develop as you observe, then save and share your own results. From New Zealand, that means exploring spectacular southern objects such as the Carina and Tarantula Nebulae, Omega Centauri and the Jewel Box star cluster, as well as galaxies, wider Milky Way fields and star trails. The Moon and Sun have their own dedicated observing modes. Explore lunar craters, mountains and shadows, or attach the included ND solar filter to safely image the Sun and features such as sunspots. And when the stars are not out, the DWARF mini is still useful. Its separate wide-angle and telephoto cameras make it easy to find and photograph birds, wildlife, distant landscapes and other daytime subjects. All of this is packed into a unit weighing just 840g, making the DWARF mini exceptionally easy to take outside, travel with or move to a different observing location. It is particularly well suited to someone buying their first telescope who wants straightforward viewing and imaging without first learning traditional star-hopping or astrophotography techniques. It also offers enough manual control, RAW image capability and more advanced processing options to remain interesting as your experience develops. Why Choose the DWARF mini? Sun, night sky and daytime viewing in one telescope — explore astronomy, solar observing, wildlife and distant scenery with the same compact unit. Automatic locating and tracking — select a night-sky target and let the telescope handle much of the work of finding and following it. See faint objects build on screen — image stacking gradually reveals nebulae, galaxies and star clusters that would be difficult to appreciate through a small conventional telescope. Wide-angle and telephoto cameras — quickly locate a daytime subject or capture wide Milky Way views, then switch to the telephoto camera when you want a closer view. View, save and share from your phone or tablet — there is no eyepiece, making it easy for more than one person to enjoy what the telescope is capturing. Exceptionally portable — weighing only 840g, the DWARF mini is easy to use at home or take with you. Simple to start, with room to grow — automatic operation for new users plus mosaics, scheduled imaging, longer exposures, multi-night stacking and RAW files for those who want to go further. What Can You See & Capture? The DWARF mini is particularly strong on nebulae, star clusters, galaxies and wider areas of the night sky. Image stacking allows faint light to accumulate over time, so objects such as the Carina Nebula, Tarantula Nebula and Omega Centauri can gradually emerge on your screen even though the telescope itself is remarkably small. Its wide-angle camera also opens up Milky Way photography, large sky fields and star trails. The Moon and Sun are another strength. Lunar features including craters, mountain ranges and shadows can be photographed easily, while the included ND solar filter allows safe solar imaging and the opportunity to capture sunspots. The DWARF mini is less suited to detailed planetary observing: Jupiter and Saturn can be located and photographed, but they remain relatively small compared with the detailed planetary views available from a longer-focal-length conventional telescope. During the day, switch between the wide-angle and telephoto views to explore birds, wildlife, boats, landscapes or other distant subjects. You can take photographs and video directly through the telescope, making the DWARF mini far more versatile than an astronomy-only system. How the DWARF mini Works Set the telescope outside and connect your smartphone or tablet directly to it wirelessly. An internet connection is not required for normal telescope control while you are observing. Open the DWARFLAB app and use Sky Atlas to search for an object or see suggestions for what is available from your location. Select a target and the DWARF mini can automatically find it, track it and begin capturing images. Bright targets such as the Moon can be viewed almost immediately. Faint nebulae and galaxies need more light, so the telescope captures and combines multiple exposures. As additional frames are stacked, you can watch the image become clearer and reveal detail that was not visible in an individual exposure. Much of the process — including finding, focusing, tracking and basic image processing — can be handled automatically, so you do not need to understand astrophotography before you begin. As your confidence grows, you can take more control. The DWARF mini supports features including astronomy mosaics, scheduled imaging, equatorial tracking and multi-night Mega Stack, allowing observations collected over different nights to contribute to a deeper final image. Image Processing & Room to Grow Capturing the image does not have to be the end of the process. Stellar Studio is built into the DWARFLAB app, allowing you to enhance astronomy images directly on your phone without needing a separate computer or specialist editing software. It can reduce noise, improve star appearance and bring out additional detail in nebulae before you save or share the finished image. For customers who want to take astrophotography further, the DWARF mini can also save RAW image data for processing in software such as Photoshop, Siril or PixInsight. This gives the telescope an unusual breadth of appeal: you can let the DWARF mini do most of the work when you are starting out, then progressively take greater control of capturing and processing your images as your interest develops. FAQ's Do I need an internet connection to use the DWARF mini? No. Your phone or tablet connects directly to the telescope for normal observing and control. You will need internet access beforehand to download or update the DWARFLAB app and for online/cloud features where applicable, but you do not need an internet connection simply to take the telescope outside and observe. Do I look through an eyepiece? No. The DWARF mini is a smart telescope, so the image is viewed on your smartphone or tablet rather than through a traditional eyepiece. This also makes it easy to save what you see and share the view with other people. What is the DWARF mini best for viewing and imaging? The DWARF mini is particularly well suited to nebulae, galaxies, star clusters, the Moon, the Sun and wider night-sky subjects such as the Milky Way and star trails. Its wide-angle and telephoto cameras also make it useful for daytime subjects including birds, wildlife, landscapes and distant scenery. Jupiter and Saturn can also be located and imaged, although the telescope's strongest results are generally on larger or wider-field targets. Smartphone & Tablet Compatibility The DWARFLAB app is available for supported iOS and Android devices. Because mobile operating-system requirements and device compatibility can change over time, we recommend checking DWARFLAB's current app compatibility information before purchase. Please note: Tripod and carry bag are not included and are available separately. **2 Year Limited Warranty Specifications Specification Telephoto Wide-Angle Aperture 30 mm 3.4 mm Focal Length 150 mm 6.7 mm Equivalent Focal Length 1016 mm 45 mm Sensor Sony IMX662 1/2.8" OmniVision OS02K10 1/2.8" Effective Pixels 2.07M 2.07M Max.
