A Pair of Murano White "Pulgegoso" Glass and Brass Wall Sconces
A Pair of Murano White "Pulgegoso" Glass and Brass Wall Sconces Each fluted, tulip-form shade of opaque white glass suffused with dense gold-flecked bubble inclusions in the pulegoso manner, with gold inclusions, above a ribbed brass socket collar, terminating below in a matching bubbled amber glass ball finial, mounted to a circular brass wall plate on a short scrolled arm. Note: The pulegoso technique — in which air bubbles are deliberately trapped within the molten glass to produce a frothed, textured surface — was popularised on Murano from the late 1920s by Napoleone Martinuzzi at Venini and subsequently adopted across numerous glasshouses through the mid-century; the contrasting gold-flecked amber finial here is a decorative device typical of the form's later production.
