The Gillott 290

One nib number. Two very different nibs. The Gillott 290 Lithographic was described in the company's own catalogue as a Superfine Drawing Point - produced for writing on stone, and for retouching lettering on lithographic print. It is an exceptionally fine, very flexible pointed nib, ground to a precision that general correspondence nibs of the same period never required. That same precision makes it well suited to fine pointed work on paper - script at small scale, detailed work, anything that asks for fine detail. The one where the bronze finish gives way near the tip to a paler band of bare steel, worked by hand to refine the point still further. This set pairs that nib with the standard 290 - produced to Gillott's usual high specification, but without the additional hand work. Side by side, the difference is there to find.
