Uvarovite Druzy & Carved Silver Spike Earrings These earrings started with the uvarovite, because stones like these deserve to be the star. Uvarovite is one of the rarer members of the garnet family, and unlike the garnets most people are familiar with, it forms as masses of tiny brilliant green crystals rather than the deep red individual crystals we usually associate with garnet. That intense emerald green is completely natural, and the druzy surface gives it an incredible fine sparkle as the earrings move. I kept the stone settings simple and paired them with long sterling silver dangles that I carved with fine horizontal lines, breaking the sections apart with darkened grooves and finishing each one with a pointed tip. I love the contrast between that vivid, almost unreal green crystal surface and the more graphic, talisman-like silver below it. The dangles move freely from the stones, giving them plenty of swing while keeping the earrings surprisingly lightweight for their length. The ear wires are made as a left and right pair so the uvarovite faces forward on the ear rather than turning sideways. Uvarovite is traditionally associated with abundance, individuality, and self-worth.
