Druzy Sphalerite with Quartz Tower - 193g

This unusual Sphalerite with Quartz tower has dark grey and silver tones with natural crystal pockets and golden iron hematite throughout. The polished surface reveals layers of the mineral while leaving some of the druzy quartz formations exposed - each side is quite different, with small cavities, sparkling quartz and contrasting darker sections. Approximate measurements - 11.3cm x 3.5cm, 193g Sphalerite forms from hot, mineral-rich hydrothermal fluids moving through fractures and cavities in rock. Quartz can crystallise during the same mineralising process or during later stages, sometimes growing into open spaces and creating the small druzy-lined cavities seen in this piece.
