SpanSet Gotcha CRD Controlled Descent Device The SpanSet Gotcha CRD Controlled Descent Device is an IKAR descender with an automatic speed regulator, lowering a person at a constant, safe rate of about 0.7 metres per second under an automatic centrifugal force brake, with no risk of an uncontrolled descent. It has an integral hoisting facility so a casualty can be lifted slightly to release their weight from fall arrest equipment before being lowered, limited to a 110kg hoisting load over a maximum 8 metres. This is the descent device on its own, offered in 50, 100 and 150 metre lengths to build into a rescue or evacuation set-up. It runs on a 9mm static sheathed core rope and works between -30C and +60C. It is certified to EN 341:2011 and rated to a maximum descending load of 150kg for one person over up to 400 metres, or 225kg for two people over up to 100 metres. It requires an EN 795 anchor point with a minimum loadability of 1000kg. It is a descent device, not a fall arrest system.
