This is a beautiful and delicate example of handmade antique Brussels Duchesse lace measures 42x35cm. It was almost certainly made in Belgium. It dates to approximately 1870–1900. The individually worked motifs, delicate needle-made joining bars and beautifully balanced floral design place it above ordinary decorative lace. While it has some expected age-related wear, it remains a fine example of late 19th-century Brussels Duchesse lace and would be a worthy addition to a serious collection of European handmade lace. It is both an artistic object and a testament to the extraordinary skill of the lacemakers who created these intricate works entirely by hand.
