Popular throughout Southeast Asian cuisine, Finger Root has a distinctive taste with hints of pepper and bright citrus, making it a delicious addition to curries, soups, stir-fries, marinades, and seafood dishes. Approximately 1 year if grown in ideal conditions. Ideal Growing Conditions USDA Hardiness Zones: 9 and up Protect young plants if temperatures drop below 50F. Once established, they can take brief periods of cold down to 30F (zone 10) but expect some leaf damage. The entire plant can die if temperatures drop below 30F and the ground freezes or it snows. Grow in containers if your located in zone below zone 10. Zones 10 and up can safely grow this outdoors. Perennial evergreen - will lose leaves if exposed to too much cold. Height at Maturity: approximately 2-3 FT tall at maturity Sun: Grows best in a spot that gets bright morning light with afternoon shade Soil: Everything grows best in soil that is heavy in composted organic matter BUT this plant grows just fine in a variety of soils without amendments, like my native Florida sandy soil. Water: Monitor young plants and keep consistent water.
