Figure Sculpting Weekend Workshop- Human Form
Figure Sculpting Weekend Workshop with Ke Wang • Saturday- Sunday 5-6 Sept • 09.30–15.00• Spend a weekend slowing down, observing, and exploring the human form through clay. Whether you’re completely new to figurative sculpture or already enjoy working with clay and want to explore sculpture further, this two-day workshop is an opportunity to develop your understanding of form, proportion, observation, and three-dimensional thinking. Together, we’ll explore different ways of approaching sculpture—from understanding the basic building blocks of a form to learning how to observe, simplify, construct, and develop a sculpture. The workshop is designed to be hands-on and exploratory, with a balance of demonstrations, exercises, individual guidance, and time to work independently. The content may adapt throughout the weekend depending on the group, their experience, and where the creative process takes us. No previous sculpting experience is required—just curiosity and a willingness to get your hands dirty. The Workshop Across the two days, we’ll explore the foundations of figurative sculpture through a combination of observation, hand-building, demonstrations, and practical exercises. We may begin with playful sculpting exercises to get familiar with clay, tools, and working in three dimensions, before moving into the human form and exploring proportion, structure, and individual body parts. Throughout the weekend, we’ll look at how a complex subject can be broken down into simpler forms and how a sculpture can be developed step by step. A live human model session will give us the opportunity to put these ideas into practice, working from observation and exploring the relationship between gesture, proportion, volume, and movement. The workshop will leave room for questions, experimentation, and individual exploration. Rather than following a rigid step-by-step formula, we’ll respond to the group and let the clay—and the creative process—guide us. Lunch: 11:40–12:20 Afternoon Fika: 14:30 Meet Your Instructor — Ke Wang Part-time artist, full-time elsewhere. Ke Wang is drawn to sculpture as a way of giving life a physical presence in space. He loves clay for its flexibility and forgiving nature, and has developed his sculpting practice through independent study, courses, and lots of hands-on experimentation. He is now excited to share his passion for sculpture and create a space where fellow curious, like-minded makers can learn, sculpt, and connect. Ke and Jenny first met twelve years ago during their very first corporate jobs in Sweden—one was the IT boy, the other the revenue gal. Both have since moved on from corporate life, eventually reconnecting through their shared passion for clay. From corporate colleagues to clay companions, this workshop is another little reminder of what Dirty Hands, Mind Spa is all about: creativity, connection, and the unexpected ways making things with our hands can bring people together.
