Singapore has an average of about 176 lightning days yearly, one of the highest worldwide. Hence, it is vital that, practitioners, consultants, and Engineers have the necessary knowledge to mitigate the impact. Management, Supervisors, and contractors also have the knowledge about the LPS to implement the system effectively. This course aims to provide, strengthen, and deepen the understanding of the LPS design and its applications. Objective: This two-day course covers “four parts of SS555-2018 – Singapore Standard – Protection against Lightning”, LPS design, Risk calculations, LPS applications, etc. There will be a break between sessions, practice on calculating risk & LPS design practice, Continuous assessment in the form of random quizzes, and activities to re-call and re-instate what has been taught in class will be carried out to enhance the learning process. We expected learners to be able to design a simple Lightning Protection System based on the calculated risk at end of the course.
