Growing Plants, Growing Minds - Grade 4-6

Grades 4–6 Guiding Question: How do plants, people, and environments work together to support well-being and growth? Theme: Resilience, balance, and connection Categories: Plant science, well-being, healthy environments, relationships, systems thinking Description: Students investigate how plants adapt, respond to their environments, and depend on interconnected systems for survival. These ideas become a foundation for exploring personal strengths, resilience, supportive relationships, healthy environments, and balance. Students use plant observation, design, and hands-on horticultural experiences to consider how different conditions can either support or limit growth. Horticultural Therapy Connection: mindful observation, problem solving, self-awareness, resilience, cooperation, environmental design, responsibility, and purposeful interaction with plants. Duration: 90 min Volunteers: TBD Teacher Provides: Pencils, coloured pencils, handwashing station, tables and collaborative workspace Take Home: Planted seed/seedling or kokedama, and a reflection journal.
