Moët & Chandon only declares a vintage when the year earns it. Grand Vintage 2016 is the 77th in the house's history, drawn entirely from a single harvest with no reserve wines to smooth it out - which is what makes it a different proposition from the Brut Impérial everyone knows. 2016 was a turbulent growing year, and the house responded by leading with Chardonnay: 48% of the blend, alongside 34% Pinot Noir and 18% Meunier. Six years in the cellars and a low 5g/l dosage give it a dry, precise character - citrus and orchard fruit, fresh baguette and toasted almond, with a chalky freshness running underneath.
