Position the rhizome at a 45-degree angle with the growing tip/crown left barely exposed above the soil surface. Natural Earth-Bottom Ponds: Plant directly into the shallow mud along marginal shelves. Large hardy water lilies establish vigorous root systems in natural earthen beds and rarely need supplemental feeding. Depth Measurement: Always measure planting depth from the surface of the water down to the top of the soil or planter, never to the pond bottom. Fertilizing Routine: For potted plants, insert 3 to 5 fish-safe aquatic pond fertilizer tablets into the root zone on the 1st and 15th of each month during the active spring and summer growing season. ⚠️ Important Do's and Don'ts: NO Rocks or Gravel: Never top aquatic pots with stones, gravel, or pebbles. This restricts root spread, suffocates the crown, and completely voids your plant guarantee. Full Outdoor Sun Only: Hardy water lilies require full, direct outdoor sun all day to produce consistent blooms. They will not flower indoors or in shade. Wildlife Protection: Large Koi, turtles, and deer actively consume water lily pads and emerging buds. Protect young plants and avoid keeping them with large turtles or large Koi.
