GM 40009800 supersedes the original 55506665 oil pan and features several significant design revisions, including a relocated drain plug, revised internal sump geometry, updated oil pickup design, and additional changes to the pan casting. One of the biggest improvements is the new drain plug location. On the original 55506665 pan, the drain plug was positioned above the lowest area of the sump, allowing a noticeable amount of used engine oil to remain trapped in the pan during an oil change. Revised Oil Pickup Design The redesigned oil pan utilizes a revised matching oil pickup tube with a different inlet shape, angle, and mounting orientation compared with the original design.
