Stemlite Table Lamp

The GUBI Stemlite Table Lamp is a landmark of modern lighting design, originally created by American designer Bill Curry in 1962. Recognised as the first true “total look” lamp, the Stemlite challenged traditional lighting conventions by replacing the conventional base-and-shade structure with a single self-contained design composed of interchangeable modules. The pioneering Stemlite quickly became an influential icon of the Space Age design movement. In 1965, it was named “most influential lamp of the year” by Industrial Design Magazine and famously appeared on the set of the original Star Trek television series. The design remained in production until 1977 before being reintroduced and remastered by GUBI nearly half a century later. The contemporary Stemlite collection remains faithful to Curry's original design while introducing an updated colour palette and refined construction. Its distinctive geometric form creates a sculptural silhouette without relying on a traditional lampshade, allowing the light source and structural elements to become an integrated part of the design.
