A handsome silver-plated pedestal serving stand (or cake stand) by James Walker Ltd Mappin Plate of London and Sheffield. It's simple and elegant design is typical of the early 20th century. The piece features a broad circular tray with a gently raised, rolled rim, supported on a short central stem above a substantial spreading trumpet-shaped foot. Subtle moulded bands around the stem and base provide understated decorative detail, while the otherwise restrained design allows the polished silvered surface and balanced proportions to take prominence.
