Djoharian Collection · Antique · Hand-Knotted in Isfahan, Iran Antique Isfahan Rug 212 × 140 cm · c. 120–130 Years A rare antique Isfahan rug, roughly 120–130 years old — a hand-knotted masterpiece of Persian carpet art from the turn of the century, an authentic collector’s piece with an incomparable patina. A Rare Antique Collector’s Piece A rug is considered antique when it is more than 100 years old. This example, dating to the turn of the twentieth century, is a sustainable, pre-owned treasure made without any new materials — an investment in a piece of cultural heritage with a depth of patina that only a century of life can give. It is offered in good condition, freshly washed and restored. Design & Origin — The Ahmad Workshop Woven in the renowned “Ahmad” workshop in Isfahan, Iran, this rug captivates with a classic, timeless pattern. A finely drawn field of floral arabesques is framed by elegant borders, and the harmonious palette of beige, red, rose and blue underlines the refinement of this one-of-a-kind piece. Isfahan has been one of the great centres of Persian weaving for centuries, and this antique example carries that pedigree. Wool & Craftsmanship The rug combines traditional materials for longevity and a pleasant hand: a pile of high-quality wool over a hard-wearing cotton foundation. The pile is finely and thinly knotted at roughly 0.5 cm, giving a robust structure that remains comfortable underfoot — the hallmark of a finely worked city rug. Colour A soft beige ground sets off the dense floral drawing, with accents of red, rose and blue running through the field and borders. The colours have mellowed gracefully over more than a century, giving the rug a warm, collected depth that pairs beautifully with both classic and contemporary interiors. Presence in the Room At 212 × 140 cm (2.97 m²) this is a versatile medium-size rug — a true 5 × 7 ft format: Living room: a refined centrepiece in front of a sofa or beneath a coffee table. Bedroom: a warm, characterful surface beside the bed. Study or dining room: a collector’s rug that brings history to a refined space.
