Antique African Cast Bronze Bells Cameroon
Antique African Cast Bronze Bells – Cameroon Grassfields, Possibly Bamum/Bamileke Group of four traditionally cast African bronze/brass bells, probably from the Cameroon Grassfields region. Each bell has an individually formed suspension loop and original internal metal clapper. The bells display substantial age, oxidation and surface patination, with irregular handmade casting characteristics throughout. One example features distinctive scalloped/rope-like decoration around the lower rim, while another has pronounced horizontal ribbing around the body. Bells have an important role in the musical, ceremonial and chiefly traditions of the Cameroon Grassfields, where bronze bells were used in courtly and ritual contexts. These examples retain considerable surface wear and patina consistent with age and use. Provenance/ethnic attribution should be considered tentative; offered as Cameroon Grassfields, possibly Bamum or Bamileke. You are receiving all 4 bells. Casting flaws and holes. Dents and tarnishing. See pictures for details. Height (In): 3.0-3.5 Width (In): 1.75-2.0 Depth (In): 1.75-2.0 157243
