The silver-coloured metal insignia is formed around the traditional chasseurs hunting horn, prominently numbered 17, with a Cross of Lorraine and thistle motif within the centre. The 17e Bataillon de Chasseurs à Pied was a French Army chasseurs unit historically associated with Rambervillers and Lorraine.
