Dogs moved without leashes, but people had a troubling number of restraints. They had things on their heads and wrists and fingers and necks. They took dips and whips and sips, and trekked and crawled, and fasted and chanted, and wore things in a way where their Gods might recognise the men but couldn’t tell the women apart. So no, he never thought he grew up in a normal setup. But that was India. Daksh now deals with something far more confusing. A place called ‘New’ India. Daksh Tyagi’s I’m Going To Offend You is a promise and a warning Daksh Tyagi began his writing career with the explosive A Nation of Idiots, and followed it up with the unapologetic Nonsense. In his latest work, the jaw-dropping I’m Going To Offend You, Daksh takes on the big, small, and tiny issues that make ‘New’ India surprisingly, confusingly, and somewhat unacceptably so ‘New’. From cities to ceremonies, from histories to communities, and from belly buttons to family friends, nothing survives the razor-sharp wit and controversial humour that Daksh is known for. Fair warning though, I’m Going to Offend You reads like the intellectual equivalent of a deep-tissue massage. An overly-revealing, knuckle-heavy, and purposefully-elbowy massage that will make you gasp and giggle. So sit back, relax, and let Daksh Tyagi offend you!
