Fairypools Orange Sapphire Ring | 18ct Rose Gold with Diamonds
Inspired by the Fairy Pools on the Isle of Skye, this Scottish designed ring is modern in form and rooted in a real place. At the Fairy Pools, crystal-clear waterfalls tumble from the Cuillin mountains into a series of rock pools. The stream pauses on its journey, filling the pool, then carries on. This ring follows the same path. A crescent of diamonds curves around the gemstone like a rock pool about to overflow, and diamonds set into the band run down the shoulder like the stream continuing on its way. At the centre is a 6mm round orange sapphire of 1.16ct, glowing with a warm, fiery light that looks wonderful against 18ct rose gold. It brings to mind the Fairy Pools at sunrise or sunset, when gold light spills across the still water. The sapphire sits off-centre, and the crescent and the round stone together can be read as phases of the moon. Getting that balance right was the hardest part of the design. The ring sits high on the finger, so from the side you see the whole gemstone and the curved setting beneath it, as if you were looking into a section of rock pool from the side. The ring combines three different diamond settings: claw, rubbed over and castle set. It is an unusual combination and a technically demanding one. Every Fairypools ring is made with its own unique centre stone.
