The Flash Houlette by Merv Taylor
A clean, visual way to produce a spectator’s chosen card, using special cards that still look perfectly ordinary even under close inspection. About thirty years later, John Snider released the same basic effect in a different form — using a small plastic rod instead of the magician’s thumb — under the name Plop Up. A number of other Non‑Rising Card versions have appeared since, but they all trace back to Merv Taylor’s original Flash Houlette. Notice: For Bridge size cards (included). _EF Merv Taylor’s latest. One or more cards are freely chosen and shuffled back into the pack which is then placed into a transparent Lucite houlette. Holding the houlette in full view, the chosen card seemingly pops out of the deck and remains protruding half-way out of the deck. The remaining chosen cards pop up in like manner, and the houlette is passed for Inspection. No rubber, No thread, No wax, No clock works, and no assistants. Sure-fire and may be done anywhere at any time.
