A Sea Dragon from the Jurassic Coast This limited edition statement necklace is made from fossilised Plesiosaur bone, dredged from the Kimmeridge Clay off Dorset's Jurassic Coast. Each bead is around 155 million years old – a real piece of a marine reptile that hunted Jurassic seas while dinosaurs walked the land. Look closely and you'll see the speckled texture of the original bone structure, so no two beads – or necklaces – are alike. The Details • Material: polished fossilised Plesiosaur bone with silver-tone spacer beads • Colours: rust, chestnut, caramel and sand, with the odd slate-grey bead • Length: 56cm (22 inches), falling to the upper chest • Origin: Kimmeridge Clay, Dorset, England About the Plesiosaur Plesiosaurs were marine reptiles that appeared in the late Triassic, over 200 million years ago, and survived until the end of the Cretaceous, 66 million years ago. With four powerful flippers, they were among the top predators of the ancient oceans. Fun fact: Mary Anning found the first complete Plesiosaur skeleton at Lyme Regis in 1823, on this same stretch of coast. How to Wear It • Over a black or white tee as an earthy focal point • With chunky knitwear for autumn and winter • Layered with a fine chain for a modern twist on the beaded trend A Gift with a Story Ideal for fossil collectors, dinosaur lovers, geologists or anyone who's gone fossil hunting at Charmouth or Lyme Regis. Fossils are traditionally linked with grounding, patience and connection to the past.
