Published in Paris in 1914, this volume explores the origins and early development of French opéra-comique, highlighting the composers and theatrical traditions that helped shape the genre. The book also includes period illustrations and musical excerpts throughout the text. Each book in this collection features a different cloth binding. At that time, books were sold as simple paperbacks and the owners would choose custom cloth covers for their books at local bookbinding shops. These unique covers are part of the decorative appeal of these early French volumes. Please note the cloth cover on the spine shows fading and discoloration along the spine due to sun exposure, along with small tears at the base . The interior remains in good antique condition.
