(Minimum of 6 registrants required to hold class) ***Supplies list will be emailed to all registrants 1 week prior to each class*** Discover the art of visible mending and transform well-loved garments into pieces you'll treasure even more. Join one or all classes in the series! In this five-week series, you'll explore a variety of traditional and contemporary mending techniques that celebrate creativity, sustainability, and personal expression. From practical patches and timeless Japanese sashiko to decorative embroidery, knitwear repair, and woven darning with a SpeedWeve-style loom, each class introduces a new skill you can use to extend the life of your clothing while adding beauty and character. Whether you're repairing a favorite pair of jeans, refreshing a beloved sweater, or embellishing a jacket with embroidery, you'll leave each session with new techniques, greater confidence, and a one-of-a-kind finished piece. No prior mending experience is necessary—just bring an item of clothing each week that's ready for a little love, and together we'll learn that every stitch tells a story. Week 1 (October 5, 6:30 - 8 pm): Overview, Patches, & Hems Join us for a fun class exploring the history of visible mending as creative expression while learning the many ways of using patches to mend your clothes, along with hacks for mending your jeans. Bring a woven item of clothing in need of mending and together we’ll make it beautiful again! Week 2 (October 12, 6:30 - 8 pm): Sashiko This week we’ll dive into the storied tradition of Japanese Sashiko as mending and embracing the beauty of both symmetry and imperfection. Bring an item of woven clothing in need of either repair or embellishment and learn how to include this classic technique into your wardrobe! Week 3 (October 26, 6:30 - 8 pm): Embroidery In this class you’ll learn 5 basic embroidery stitches that will give you versatility and flair as you celebrate and create uniqueness in your personal style. Bring a woven item of clothing that’s looking for some extra flair and take part in an ancient textile tradition. Week 4 (November 2, 6:30 - 8 pm): Knitwear In this class you’ll learn skills and strategies for making knitwear whole again, from duplicate stitch and darning to embroidery modified for knitted garments. Bring in that favorite knitted item that needs a little TLC and soon you’ll be wearing it again, with extra! Week 5 (November 9, 6:30 - 8 pm): SpeedWeve Loom Ever wonder how to get that snazzy, plaid patch on your clothes? This class will teach you how to use a SpeedWeve-style loom to really level-up your mending game. Bring a woven item of clothing and get ready to rock the smallest loom on the block to big effect!
