Mixed Media Lab: Pattern Play with Simmin Joy Holland

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 22, 6:30 - 8:30pm PT This is an in-person workshop at CfM Art Room: 4035 Judah St, San Francisco, next door to our shop! The world is full of pattern, and creating pattern can be a meditative approach to making hand-painted collage papers grounded in your unique sensibility. This mixed media lab will encourage exploration of various media and approaches to creating pattern based on exploration of scale, spacing, repetition, symmetry (or not), color, and value. Join Simmin in this casual and connective lab designed to encourage both new and established artists to explore the world of pattern. MATERIALS NEEDED These are the supplies you'll need to bring for class—feel free to supplement this list with other options you love or have on hand! Watercolor paper Watercolor paints Brushes - any size but variety is good Waterproof fine line black pen (like Sakura Micron, any size is fine) Scrap paper Collage papers with printed pattern (wrapping paper, tissue paper, graph paper, anything you can find) Glue stick Scissors Any mixed media materials are welcome (color pencil, markers, I love paint pens for drawing quick pattern) Optional: Washi, Artist's, or Nichiban masking tape If you'd like to purchase supplies from our shop, you can order online and select in-store pickup, or shop in person before class. Shop hours are 11am-6pm daily; please plan ahead if you're picking up supplies! Instructors will not have access to the shop when we're closed. ABOUT INSTRUCTOR Simmin is a mixed media artist whose current creative practice is based in a life-long exploration of somatic practices, mindfulness/meditation, and self-inquiry. She works with a felt sense - a bodily intuition and curiosity - until an unconscious storytelling is revealed in the material expression. As an OT in mental health and a former yoga teacher, Simmin has 30 years of experience in facilitating individuals and groups to connect to an intuitive place within & express from that place of inner brilliance. https://www.simminjoy.com/ THINGS TO KNOW If you need to cancel, please let us know as soon as possible so we can open up your spot! We are only able to refund if we’re notified at least 48 hours prior to the workshop. Workshop doors open 15 minutes early for all to arrive and get settled. Class will start promptly so everyone has plenty of time to create! For public transit, both the #18 bus and the N-Judah muni lines stop just at the corner of our block. If you're driving, there is 1-hour parking along Judah St., and unmetered street parking in the surrounding neighborhood. We recommend building in extra time to park for evening and weekend classes!
