Originating in the Dongbei Province of Northern China, this pine sideboard dates around 1920. It has been restored in an artisanal workshop in Shandong bringing it back to a subtle faded beauty. This small sized cabinet has two doors with brass handles accessing a generous internal space. As part of the restoration, the piece was given a new removable inner shelf, making the storage compartment more flexible. Interestingly this compact little cabinet is both petite and spacious providing more storage inside than first appears. Painted in a striking vermillion red colour with a distressed overlay, the cabinet features a strong flurry of orange peonies and birds at play. Both the flowers and birds represent prosperity, good fortune and marital longevity in Chinese culture. The whole piece rests on decorative curved feet. The overall appearance makes this a unique yet tasteful addition to any bedroom, dining room or even office space. This compact piece also works well in entrance halls or as a linen closet. Dimensions: 77(w) x 40(d) x 72(h) cm Materials: pine with brass fittings If you have any questions about this item, please click here to contact us.
