In Romania it only exists in Beltiug. The variety was nearly extinct. But Johann Brutler cut scions in 2006 from age-old vines in the vineyards of Grandpa Schmied (Father of Katharina Brutler) and replanted a vineyard from it in 2009 in one of the best locations of Beltiugs‘ vineyards. The name Grünspitz refers probably to its taste. The wines had always high acidity due to the very late ripening of the berries About the winery Edgar studied oenology at Geisenheim because of his Romanian family vineyard. Musician turned wine maker, he founded Weingut Edgar Brutler in 2018 with a focus on organic farming, native grapes, old vine field blends, and making wines based on smelling, tasting, and feeling rather than numbers and analytics. Farming is without herbicides, chemical-synthetic sprays and mineral fertilizers. His Gruenspitz vineyard is one of the only 2 plantings of this grape variety in Europe.
