It is especially helpful when removing RAM chips, correcting alignment during rework, and doing a final hot air pass after the pins have already been soldered by hand. The shape of this nozzle helps direct hot air across the rows of RAM pins instead of chasing the pins with a small round nozzle. That makes removal more controlled, helps the solder joints heat more evenly, and can reduce run time on your hot air station or desoldering gun. Prolonged heat exposure can damage RAM chips, so focused and efficient heating matters. By bringing the pins up to temperature faster and more evenly, this nozzle helps reduce unnecessary heat soak into the chip and surrounding area during removal and rework. BEST USED FOR: Removing RAM chips from donor boards Removing a bad or misaligned RAM chip Helping settle alignment during rework Final hot air pass after hand soldering Smoothing and evening out solder joints after iron work Reducing unnecessary wear on your desoldering gun RECOMMENDED SETUP: For best results, I recommend using this nozzle with a hot air gun stand and a powered suction pen. The stand keeps the nozzle steady while the RAM pins come up to temperature. The powered suction pen gives controlled lift once the solder is ready, which helps reduce slipping, dragging, and pad stress during removal. IMPORTANT INSTALL NOTE: For a raw RAM chip install, I still recommend setting the chip by hand and soldering the pins with an iron first. This nozzle is not my preferred tool for placing and soldering a fresh chip from scratch. Where it shines is removal, rework, alignment assistance, and the final cleanup pass after the chip is already soldered in place. After hand soldering, a light final pass with this nozzle can help smooth the joints and clean up the finished look of the install.
