Dating to circa 1910, this elegant Edwardian bar brooch is set with a single pearl to the centre of a slender gold bar. Pearls have long been associated with purity, wisdom and loyalty, making them a popular choice for jewellery throughout the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. They are also the birthstone for June. Bar brooches became particularly fashionable during the Edwardian period and were often worn at the collar, neckline or secured to delicate lace and fabrics. Their simple linear design suited the lighter, more refined fashions of the age. Over a century later, they remain just as wearable and are wonderfully versatile, whether worn traditionally or styled on a jacket, scarf or knitwear. A charming example of Edwardian jewellery in its most elegant and uncomplicated form.
