Double Helix Detonator 902 Engineer Boots - Black Horsebutt strip leather

The Double Helix 902 Detonator engineers are similar to their 702 style but have a little less volume over the toes and a bit more taper at the outer toes making them more a classic engineer shape. They are very well balanced, a great amount of heft without looking or feeling like tanks on your feet. They look and feel more aggressive than a number of engineers we stock so if you are after a slightly heavier look whilst still have a classic engineer lines and balance, these are a very nice option. They feel great on too! The leather: Often unheard of, Horsebutt strip leather is a very characterful section of Horsebutt (more towards the loins!). It is a very thick, heavy duty and soft/ pliable part of the leather that has very subtle (on the engineers) but visible wave like stripes running through it. The leather is aniline dyed and will tea core with heavy wear. It is a lovely dry feeling leather that feels very robust but not stiff and will age with lots of character and lovely horse leather rolls. A great choice for a lifetime pair of boots. There'e more on the fit of the boots in the size info but they are very shapely and very comfortable from the start. The last feels average in the heel, shapely in the waist and generous at the ball but with a gentle taper towards the toes. They have a good amount of volume over the ball and toes but still snug enough for average width/ height feet to buckle snug at the back. Those with feet with more width/ volume will get on very well with the fit. The ideal feet for them would be average to heavier feet without too much toe splay due to the taper. If you do have toe splay (wide toes) then you'll want to consider a half size up from teh recommendation on teh sizing tab. There is also a medium amount of arch support, plenty compared to Red Wing or many of the British makers but not as pronounced as White's for example. They feel very good on and feel slightly cushioned due to the own brand rubberised cork outer-sole (which is a hard wearing and grippy material). They are goodyear welted (so can be re-soled many a time) with a flat and very clean welt. The components are top notch, the stitching is uniform and clean, the trims are well balanced, the heel is shaped well and overall they are very well made and very nicely finished. They are also Horse leather lined in areas of friction and have a full leather insole with a leather half sole in the heel. If you like the style then you'll love how they look and feel in person.
