Google Project Ara
Google Project Ara is the holy grail of smartphone collectibles — a working prototype of the world's most ambitious modular smartphone concept, cancelled by Google in September 2016 before it ever reached consumers. Originally developed by Motorola's ATAP division and later continued by Google, Project Ara envisioned a phone where every component — processor, camera, battery, speaker, display — could be swapped out like a module, letting users customise, upgrade, or repair their device piece by piece. Prototype units ("Developer Edition" Spiral 2 and Spiral 3 models) were distributed to a tiny number of developers and insiders. Only a handful of working units are known to exist outside Google. Genuine prototypes have surfaced publicly only a handful of times and represent one of the rarest artefacts in the history of consumer technology.
