Scarpa instinct VSR - Climbing shoe
The Scarpa Instinct VSR is a high-performance climbing shoe for expert climbers who want precision, sensitivity and aggressive hooking power. It uses the same slightly asymmetrical, downturned Instinct shape, but with a softer and stickier feel than the Instinct VS. The Vibram® XS Grip 2 rubber gives excellent friction and sensitivity, making the VSR especially strong on volumes, steep indoor climbing, bouldering and technical foot placements where feeling the foothold matters. What this solves Some performance shoes give support, but feel too stiff. The Instinct VSR solves this by giving you a powerful shape with more sensitivity and grip. You still get tension through the toe, but the shoe feels more responsive on modern indoor holds, steep terrain and technical boulders. How this solves it The shoe uses Scarpa’s Bi-Tension system, which runs from the toe to the arch. This creates tension through the shoe without making it overly rigid. The 1 mm Flexan midsole insert helps distribute force across the foot while still allowing flexibility in the rear part of the shoe. The biggest difference is the sole: the VSR uses Vibram® XS Grip 2 under the forefoot and heel. This makes it softer, stickier and more sensitive than shoes using XS Edge. Why this shoe The Instinct VSR combines: a slightly downturned performance shape a medium angled toe box Vibram® XS Grip 2 rubber strong heel hooking performance sensitivity for steep and indoor climbing a fit that often works well for wider feet and Greek foot shapes Compared to the Instinct VS, the VSR is usually the better choice if you want more sensitivity, more friction and better performance on modern indoor climbing. Best for Advanced climbers A strong upgrade if you want a softer, stickier shoe for bouldering and indoor climbing. Expert climbers Ideal when precision, sensitivity and aggressive hooking matter more than maximum edging support. Greek or wider feet The Instinct shape is often a good option for climbers who find many aggressive shoes too narrow or too pointed. Not ideal for Beginner climbers who still need comfort and durability more than aggressive performance. Long multi-pitch routes, where comfort and support usually matter more. Climbers who mainly climb on very small outdoor edges and prefer a stiffer, more supportive shoe.
