Saccharomyces boulardii is a non-pathogenic yeast with probiotic activity. It is most studied for its efficiency in the prevention of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea. S. boulardii may protect the gastrointestinal mucosa, which is essential to trap bacteria and protect the gut walls, making it the immune system's ‘first line of defence’ against gut issues. Without it, the risk of inflammation and infection increases. S. boulardii aids in the production of secretory IgA (SIgA), an antibody that protects against sensitivities such as food intolerances, IBS and gut permeability. Warnings This probiotic may also interfere with cellular signalling pathways common in many inflammatory conditions.
