Antique Solid Quarter-Sawn Oak Banker's Chairs c.1934

ABOUT A set of four antique bow-back Windsor style banker's or library chairs styled by the Phoenix Chair Company. Phoenix heavily marketed these traditional bow-back styles in their 1938 and 1948 catalogs. The chairs feature solid quarter-sawn oak, curved lumbar spindles, metal sliders and a contoured wooden saddle seat. Original maker's stamp and date underneath. CREATOR Phoenix Chair Company, Sheboygan, Wisconsin DATE OF MANUFACTURE c.1934. MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES Solid Quarter-Sawn Oak. CONDITION Good. Wear consistent with age and use. DIMENSIONS H 33.5 in. W 23.25 in. D 21 in. Seat Height: 18 in. HISTORY The set of four chairs were used in a San Francisco pediatrician's waiting room from 1950-1970s. The Phoenix Chair Company was founded in 1875 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
