Land of Giants 2026 by Helen Boardman
Land of Giants 2026 by Helen Boardman Land of Giants is part of a series capturing the Roaches — the dramatic gritstone ridge rising from the North Staffordshire Moorlands. The title speaks to the sheer physical presence of this place: vast rock formations that loom from the moorland like ancient sentinels, worn by millennia of wind and weather into shapes that feel almost deliberate, almost alive. A midnight blue sky gives way to light across the rock and heather, the landscape ancient and elemental, charged with the particular stillness of high ground. Nearby lies Ludd’s Church — a great natural chasm in the gritstone long associated with the mythic Green Chapel of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, a reminder that this landscape has always carried the weight of story. Developed from plein air sketches and notes made whilst walking in spring 2026, and completed in the studio in summer 2026. Finished with artist’s professional UV satin varnish and wax.
