1950s - DALTON, USA - Exquisite Grey Cashmere Cardigan

Beautiful 1950s Dalton cardigan in wonderfully soft grey virgin cashmere. A particularly elegant example of mid-century knitwear, with a fitted waist-length silhouette, three-quarter sleeves and a wide pointed collar. The collar and front opening are worked in a contrasting textured knit and finished with a charming series of tiny knitted loops, giving the otherwise understated grey cardigan a wonderfully refined decorative finish.The front closes with a row of small pearlized buttons, subtly reflecting the silvery tones of the cashmere. Dalton emerged in the United States at the end of the 1940s and became particularly associated with fine cashmere knitwear during the following decade. Rather than relying only on the quality of the fibre, many of its 1950s designs incorporated distinctive collars, trims and carefully considered decorative details — all beautifully represented in this piece.
